Four suspects including a psychiatric instructor who visited a school in the Hali-Ela Police Division in Badulla have been arrested, with a firearm and stock of ammunition.
The instructor had arrived at the school last morning to conduct a psychology programme, and he was reportedly accompanied by three private security guards dressed in black.
Upon inspection based on a tipoff received by Police, three walkie-talkies, an air rifle and 129 ammunition were found in their possession.
Police investigations revealed that permission was not obtained from the Provincial or Zonal Directors of Education for the programme, and that the relevant instructor was not registered with any institution.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 36 who are residents of Chilaw, Ratmalana and Negombo will be produced before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court today.
Police requested all factions to refrain from inviting such people to schools.
