Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa says the sudden appointment of a four-member Cabinet of Ministers was for the purpose of convening Parliament today.
Speaking in Parliament today, MP Rajapaksa said the President reached a decision to appoint a new Cabinet as the former Cabinet of Ministers reached a unanimous decision to resign.
The Parliamentarian said the decision to resign was conveyed to the Head of State in writing through the Prime Minister.
He said the President accordingly extended an open invitation to all political parties to take up Ministerial portfolios in order to seek solutions to the prevailing crisis.
The MP said in order to convene Parliament, ranks including the Chief Government Whip must be filled claiming therefore MPs Johnston Fernando and Dinesh Gunawardena were sworn in as the Minister of Highways and Minister of Education respectively.
