Former Kegalle SSP KB Keerthiratne, who was arrested in connection to opening fire at protesters in Rambukkana recently, has been remanded till the 6th of May.

The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Shalini Perera this evening.

The Magistrate issued the order after visiting the suspect who is receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

The Criminal Investigation Department arrested three Police constables in Kundasale, Kandy in connection to the Rambukkana incident.

The CID made the arrest yesterday under the directives of the Inspector General of Police after the Police Headquarters received the order issued by Kegalle Magistrate Wasana Nawarathna.

A tense situation was reported in Rambukkana on the 19th of April with area residents engaging in protests from morning demanding a steady supply of fuel and against the recent fuel price revision.

Police fired tear gas to disperse protesters and opened fire when they failed to disperse the crowds.

One individual died in the Police gunfire, while several others also sustained injuries.

The Criminal Investigation Department has thus far recorded 20 statements in relation to the incident
