Parliamentarian Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka is expected to complaint to the Leader of the Opposition over the injustice he faced during the May Day rally of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya yesterday.
Speaking to media in Colombo over a video circulating on social media regarding a heated exchange between him and Parliamentarian Harin Fernando during the rally, MP Fonseka said MP Fernando was in charge of organising the May Day rally and he failed to organise matters in a just manner and focused on highlighting images of certain individuals.
MP Fonseka said he raised his objections and MP Fernando in turn lashed out and used inappropriate language.
The Parliamentarian said MP Fernando could have responded respectfully and condemned his actions.
MP Fonseka said MP Fernando spoke to the Opposition Leader, when he raised the concern, and raised suspicions if MP Sajith Premadasa was also aware of the matter prior.
The MP said backbenchers, who opposed the incident, abandoned the event.
He added, as the second in command of the party, he has a responsibility and right to address such matters that will hinder the unity of the party.
MP Fonseka said there is no power struggle among seniors of the party.
He expressed hope that the Opposition Leader will take suitable action when the complaint is filed.
Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Harin Fernando speaking to media after today’s SJB Parliamentary group meeting said the only fight he is focused on is the fight to overthrow the current government.
The MP said he is focused on supporting the people’s struggle towards achieving this goal.
When inquired by the altercation between him and MP Sarath Fonseka MP Fernando had this to say.
The MP also stated that the SJB Parliamentary group discussed the country’s economic situation, the future programme of the SJB, and the No-Confidence Motion that will be tabled against the government this week.
