Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka charges, the government does not have a stringent plan to ensure national security, when looking at the allocations for the Defence Ministry within next years budget.
Speaking during the Committee Stage Debate on the expenditure heads for the Defence Ministry, the Parliamentarian said he does not agree to the rationale that defence expenditure should reduce since the war has ended.
He stressed that the country must be ready to face foreign threats, even if there is peace internally.
The MP said we must not misjudge the situation and continue spending on ensuring national security which is not cheap.
Parliamentarian Sarath Fonseka commented that his efforts to procure defence equipment for free during the conflict, were in vain since nobody was willing to provide it free.
He stressed that defence spending must continue in order to ensure national security.
