Another five suspects have been arrested over the murder of the late Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his security officer during the unrest and violence on the 9th of May in Nittambuwa.
Four suspects were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department while one individual was arrested by the Computer Crimes Division.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said 31 suspects have thus far been arrested over the murder of Athukorala and the security officer and the assault on the Maradana Superintendent of Police and a Deputy Inspector General of Police and the official vehicle they were travelling in being torched on the 9th of May.
SSP Thalduwa said the CID is conducting further investigations into the five suspects who were arrested with the use of CCTV footage from the Nittambuwa area.
He added the suspect arrested by the Computer Crimes Division has been identified as a 21-year-old who allegedly spread misinformation on social media in the capacity of a page administrator.
