The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka says a five hour island wide power cut will be imposed tomorrow. However, power disruptions will not be enforced on Vesak Poya.
Speaking to media today PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake recalled that five hour power cuts were imposed both yesterday and day before, and will continue on Saturday.
He also noted that the PUCSL did not cut power on religious holidays like Ramazan and Good Friday.
Rathnayake explained that thermal power generation plants did not function during the past three days, which has resulted in an increased duration of power disruptions.
He revealed that the government has not been able to source the funds to purchase crude oil, despite the ship being docked at the port for a week.
The PUCSL Chairman commented that nature is on our side as more than 45% of electricity generation was sourced through hydropower.
He also noted that a group of officials of the CEB, CPC, the Central Bank and PUCSL have formed a coalition to continue their duties until political stability is restored in the country.
