The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims all casualties as a result of gas leak explosions, are not natural deaths, but murder.
The SJB requested the government to provide a solution to the issue within two days, without further delay and wasting time appointing committees to investigate gas related explosions.
Speaking during a media briefing this afternoon, Parliamentarian Hector Appuhamy said the SJB, the public and even officials of the Consumer Affairs Authority urged the government to protect consumers.
MP Appuhamy said allowing such incidents to occur amounts to murder adding the recent death reported was not a mere accident.
The Parliamentarian said they have submitted a complaint to the Criminal Investigation Department and expect investigations to conclude promptly.
He urged the government to refrain from placing more lives at risk.
On a separate note, commenting on the difficulties faced by the public during the upcoming festival season, MP Appuhamy questioned if the public will have access to food claiming the price of a kilogram of chicken could increase to Rs.1,500.
He said the public is unable to purchase chicken, eggs and vegetables.
The MP said the farming community informed him that stocks of vegetables being sold have reduced significantly.
MP Appuhamy claimed vegetable vendors are requesting farmers to send discarded vegetables due to the lack of crops.
