Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila says a final decision pertaining to fuel prices will be reached by Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa.
Speaking at a media briefing today, Minister Gammanpila said the Finance Minister will announce a decision through the 2022 Budget.
The Minister added they decided against increasing fuel prices at present owing to the burden on the public, despite the massive losses incurred by the government as a result of the decision.
Minister Gammanpila on a separate note said the public is moving away from the use of diesel to kerosene oil due to the price difference.
He added a litre of diesel is sold at Rs.111 while a litre of kerosene oil is sold at Rs.77.
The Minister said factories, boats, and even buses are operating on kerosene oil while domestically also kerosene oil is being used instead of gas owing to the significant price difference.
However, Minister Gammanpila said the issuance of kerosene oil is being controlled in areas that are not heavily populated by farmers and fisherfolk.
