The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has urged the government to file legal action against perpetrators in accordance with the recommendations cited in the report by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to probe the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Speaking during a media briefing today, Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella said the government appears to be preparing to select and punish individuals at will.
MP Kiriella said the Head of the State Intelligence Service claimed he informed the Inspector General of Police and the Secretary of Defence of the impending attacks, a month prior to the attacks.
The Parliamentarian said it is impossible to verify such claims due to mobile phone data pertaining to the period being erased.
He said it is evident that the government is filing cases according to recommendations of the Cabinet Sub-Committee and not on the recommendations of the PCoI.
Meanwhile, responding to questions raised pertaining to the letter written to the President requesting Presidential Pardon for former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, MP Kiriella said there is a myth at recent that a court verdict cannot be criticized.
The Parliamentarian said pardoning MP Ramanayake is a simple task when a murderer convicted by a five member Supreme Court bench was pardoned and a convicted murderer attends Parliament.
He said the sentence issued to MP Ramanayake is too harsh.
