The Presidential Task Force on Creating a Green Sri Lanka with Sustainable Solutions to Climate Change has decided to prioritise providing fertiliser without a shortage to farmers for the Maha season.
Attention was directed towards the matter during a discussion held at the Ministry of Environment yesterday.
Producing the required amount of organic fertiliser locally, based on the policy decision reached by the government to make the use of organic fertiliser mandatory, and importing if required was also discussed during the meeting.
It was also discussed that the government has not mandated that 3% of compost contain nitrogen, and that concerns relating to fertiliser must be resolved without inconveniencing farmers.
The Environment Ministry said attention was also directed towards ongoing projects and formulating new programmes for the country’s contribution to reduce global warming.
