The All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation and the farming community will launch a protest campaign in Embilipitiya at 9.30 am today.
The protest is based on the government’s move to compensate only paddy farmers and set a guaranteed price of Rs.75 for rice.
Convener of the Federation Namal Karunaratne when contacted by NewsRadio said farmers in the Ratnapura, Monaragala, and Hambantota districts will join the strike to win over their rights.
He said protests will also be carried out on the 1st of February in Mahiyanganaya, Ampara, and Padiyathalawa with further protests planned on the 10th and 18th.
Karunaratne said an island-wide campaign will be carried out against the actions of the government until their demands are met.
He claimed that their concerns are relevant to all people and urged the government to refrain from deceiving the farming community.
