The National Joint Farmers’ Organisation has requested Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage to provide a credible statement that compensation will be paid to farmers whose yields reduce after using organic fertiliser.
Speaking to media in Kandy, Chairman of the Organisation, Sunil Gamage said if farmers understand such a programme will be implemented in practice, they will move towards the use of organic fertiliser promptly.
Gamage said a verbal statement is not sufficient adding a written statement must be published in every district through the Agrarian Development Department and with the participation of the Water Management Panel.
He said this will assure the farming community that the government has taken steps to ensure the farmers’ success.
Gamage requested the present administration to direct the subject Minister to issue the relevant statement.
