The All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation has questioned the basis on which the Commander of the Army was granted the Chairmanship of the National Operation Centre for Green Agriculture, when there are many experts in the field.
National Organiser of the Federation Namal Karunaratne told NewsRadio that this could lead to a clash of opinions between the Army Commander and officials in the agricultural sector.
Karunaratne said a majority of PhD holders in the country are of the agriculture industry, who have practical proficiency in the area, who have been overlooked.
He questioned the purpose of such appointments and claimed a Task Force was previously appointed over the fertiliser issue comprising 40 persons who were not related to the subject while a second committee was also appointed comprising 20 members.
He said the appointment of a new Operation Centre indicates that the previous two committees were failures.
