Consultant Endocrinologist at the Colombo National Hospital Dr. Manilka Sumanatilleke says it is common for diabetic patients to develop symptoms such as dizziness or fever after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau Dr. Manilka Sumanatilleke said any vaccine including the vaccine against Influenza, will have side effects including pain and high fever.

He noted through vaccines the disease is introduced to the body at a small, bearable scale in order to create antibodies.

He added therefore if an individual contracts the disease, they will have more severe symptoms.

Dr. Manilka Sumanatilleke said the vaccine will also lead to some symptoms including body aches and pains adding however it will go away with time.

He advised persons experiencing symptoms to take light painkillers such as Paracetamol, adding it will reduce the aches and pains.
