Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Gunapala Ratnasekara has once again requested Sri Lankan expatriate workers to send dollars to Sri Lanka through legal channels.
Speaking in Parliament, MP Ratnasekara said that the notion that dollars are being stolen is completely false.
He said expatriate workers should remit the funds to their own accounts or to accounts of their family members.
MP Ratnasekara said since the family members and friends of expatriate workers are facing difficulties to source essentials without dollars, the move will alleviate their struggles to a certain extent.
The Parliamentarian said such dollars have to be purchased from respective banks, if the Central Bank requires them as part of its reserves.
He said either way, dollars are now used to reduce the fuel and LP gas shortages.
MP Ratnasekara therefore requested expatriate workers to support the Sri Lankans at this difficult juncture without falling prey to vested political groups.
