Teacher trade unions charge that funds allocated through the annual Budget for examination duties is yet to be granted to teachers.
General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said the government must promptly provide the exam duty allowance for the recently held Grade 5 Scholarship Examination and the Ordinary and Advanced Level Examinations.
Speaking at a media briefing yesterday, Jayasinghe questioned as to the whereabouts of such allocations that are made through the annual Budget.
He noted that teachers are engaged in exam duties amidst many difficulties owing to the coronavirus pandemic and the rising cost of living.
He added requests in this regard have been tabled numerous times in writing as well.
Jayasinghe also expressed his disappointment at the government’s inability to postpone the decision to increase fuel prices for 10 days till the completion of the 2021 O/Level Examination.
He accused the government of disregarding the convenience of students, teachers, and all stakeholders involved in the exam process.
