Former Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal has been granted bail over a case filed by Ven. Thiniyawala Palitha Thera.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage released the former Governor on an Rs.10 million surety bail.
The case will be taken up for hearing once again on the 23rd of August.
The Magistrate also allowed the thera to amend the complaint.
The complaint alleges that during his tenure as the Central Bank Governor in 2014, Ajith Nivard Cabraal had paid a sum of USD 6.5 Million to a member of the IS terror group without the approval of the Cabinet.
Thiniyawala Palitha Thera noted that Ajith Nivard Cabraal has committed an offence by releasing such a large amount of state funds without the approval of the Cabinet.
