Parliamentarian Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam claims the ‘One Country, One Law’ concept cannot be implemented by appointing a Presidential Task Force with persons who violate the law.
Speaking during a media briefing in Batticaloa MP Rasamanickam said under the concept everyone must be treated equally before the law.
He noted under the ‘One Country, One Law’ concept the public is expecting deforestation to be halted.
He claimed however if an innocent citizen takes a knife into a forest area they are fined or imprisoned for six months, while large scale businessmen cut trees and are protected by Police when doing so.
The MP stressed that is why the public demanded the ‘One Country, One Law’ concept.
He said recently in Batticaloa when a Police officer had assaulted a youth, he was interdicted.
MP Rasamanickam said however when the former Senior DIG of Kegalle assaulted a youth and through a lawyer it was revealed that he was also sexually assaulted, only punishment the SDIG received was a transfer.
He added under the ‘One Country, One Law’ concept if the Police Constable was interdicted, the same must be done to the Senior DIG.
