Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella has requested the Sri Lanka Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Forum to expedite the establishment of pharmaceutical factories through investors.
The Minister said a purchase certificate can be issued for this purpose, that will facilitate the export of drugs to regional countries.
The Minister speaking at a discussion with representatives of the Sri Lanka Pharmaceutical Industries Forum said, the primary focus should be on the distribution of imported medicines to required areas.
Minister Rambukewlla added in the event the importation, distribution and sale is profitable, concessions should be granted to the public.
The representatives of the Forum proposed that a pricing system be formulated in future, even though a control price was introduced through a gazette notification for several drugs.
