Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena says the production process must be increased in order to control the rise in prices of essential commodities.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Minister Gunawardena said every country in the world, including Sri Lanka, have been affected by the recession in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister said even though the public is staging protests calling for lockdowns, it will affect daily wage earners, production will decrease, and will have long-term effects to the economy.
He said there were no miracles which would reverse the increase in prices of goods.
The Minister claimed the opposition was at fault for the current state of the economy.
