The opposition accuses the Minister of Finance of betraying the country for mere USD 1 billion.
Speaking to media in Colombo, Parliamentarian Ashok Abeysinghe claimed during a recent visit to India, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa signed an agreement with India to hand over the control of the entire Sri Lankan airspace in return for USD 1 billion.
MP Abeysinghe said the Cabinet of Ministers had not approved the said agreement before the Finance Minister’s departure.
He said without receiving Cabinet approval, no agreement can be signed.
MP Abeysinghe stressed that it is an illegal move and noted that the approval has been sought only after signing the agreement with India.
Parliamentarian Ashok Abeysinghe said after handing the airspace to India for USD 1 billion, the government is preparing to release 13 acres of land of the Colombo Harbour to China for another USD 1 billion while for USD 400 million the government will be handing the LNG supply monopoly to the US through the Yugadanavi Power Plant deal.
