The Locomotive Engineering Operators’ Union claims the trade union action launched by Station Masters has a political motive.
Secretary of the union Indika Dodangoda said after agreeing to all 10 terms yesterday during talks, the Station Masters’ Union had announced that they will go ahead with the planned union action.
He said Station Masters had indicated that they are unsure whether authorities will implement the proposals despite agreeing to them.
Indika Dodangoda noted the talks were held to come to an understanding which they did and yet a strike has been announced once again.
Indika Dodangoda said it is regrettable that the union action is being taken forward.
He said the country is facing a number of issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and certain unions affiliated to political parties are attempting to take advantage of the situation.
Indika Dodangoda said it is a well known fact that the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association is connected to a political party and therefore they can come to a conclusion that the trade union action is being staged with a political motive.
