The Lawyers for Democracy organisation states the law should be enforced against the group that attacked peaceful protesters at Galle Face on the 9th of May.
Speaking to NewsRadio Convenor of the organization Attorney Lal Wijenayake said those arrested must be tried in a criminal court.
Wijeynayake stated merely arresting those involved is insufficient and necessary investigations and action must be taken through the Criminal Procedure Code.
Wijeynayake noted arresting individuals does not guarantee that legal action will be taken against them adding the organization is vigilant over whether necessary steps are being taken.
Attorney Lal Wijenakyake said when placed under arrest statements must be recorded from the suspect and any witnesses, while a report must be submitted to the area magistrates court under the Criminal Procedure.
Wijeynayake noted that Former Minster Namal Rajapaksa was allowed to return home after being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department, and expressed his concern on whether a fair investigation is taking place.
Attorney Wijeynayake said statements must be recorded from those named as witnesses by MP Namal Rajapaksa as well.
Attorney Wijeyanayake said if the CID failed to carry out their responsibility a commission appointed by the Supreme Court must be appointed to investigate.
