Trade unions say the Minister of Energy cannot shun away from responsibility over the fuel price hike.
Trade unionist Ananda Palitha said the institutional unit of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation issued a statement yesterday in relation to the fuel price hike.
He said the public moved away from gas stoves and resorted to using kerosene stoves at Rs.3,000-4,000 adding however that the price of kerosene oil has increased by Rs.10 per litre to Rs.87.
Palitha said the government misled the public and appointed a new Minister of Finance who has now reached a decision to increase prices of fuel claiming to save dollar reserves.
Ananda Palitha said over one million individuals who commute on motorbikes have been burdened.
