Trade unionist Ananda Palitha says the corrupt system of obtaining gas and fuel by paying an additional sum, is a key reason for the current energy crisis.
Palitha speaking to NewsRadio said queues would not be forming had the government penned an agreement with Russia in July 2021.
He said the government has failed to ensure a continuous supply of fuel, and has also failed to provide fuel according to the app system introduced recently despite the availability of fuel stocks.
Palitha added former Minister of Energy Udaya Gamanpila is also responsible for the prevalent crisis, and ridiculed the MP for having travelled in V8 vehicles and today calling for 2000CC vehicles to be banned on roads.
The trade unionist also stated that Russia has an abundance of fuel and gas, and recalled that unions highlighted the need to enter agreements to obtain resources in the past.
Palitha also accused MP Gammanpila of shutting down the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery on three occasions.
He revealed that 80 percent of the 1,325 Ceylon Petroleum Corporation filling stations and 250 Lanka IOC filling stations have not been issued diesel stocks.
