The Education Non-Academic Employees’ Union says failure by authorities to take steps to solve their concerns, could lead to serious issues when schools reopen on the 21st.
General Secretary of the Union Ajith K Tilakaratne addressing a media briefing in Kandy said non-academic staff will report to work on the 21st if their concerns are not resolved.
He said non-academic workers have a great responsibility when schools reopen, from the entrance at schools to cleaning and sanitisation.
Tilakaratne said schools cannot reopen without non-academic staff and therefore called on authorities to address their grievances.
He added the rights of non-academic staff have been violated throughout the years adding that in 2013 the Management Service Department introduced an additional role, School Assistants and segregated duties at both national and provincial schools.
Terming this a violation of their rights, the union has requested officials to address this discrepancy at schools.
