Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge says he completely rejects the allegations levelled by the opposition that owing to the tax relief provided by the present administration, the country is facing an economic crisis, at present.
Speaking in Parliament, Minister Lokuge said due to the tax relief granted by the government, businesses are able to function at the optimum level even during the current climate.
The Minister claimed that the previous government received an economy which grew by 7.2 percent and a country without any conflicts.
He said however they received a country where the economy grew by only 2.2 percent.
Minister Gamini Lokuge stressed that the present government was dealing with the COVID-19 crisis for two years which was a challenge for all nations.
Minister Lokuge said at the start of the crisis, the current opposition claimed that the government was begging for money around the world to procure necessary vaccines against COVID-19.
The Minister said the government has been able to vaccinate nearly 70 percent of the population while booster shots are also being administered at present.
Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge said the government has also managed to turn the economy towards the correct path and the country is heading in the right direction now.
