The All Ceylon Joint Economic Centres says economic centres are not receiving sufficient stocks of vegetables at present.
Convenor Aruna Shantha Hettiarachchi noted prices of vegetables may increase further in future if the situation worsens over the next few months.
Aruna Shantha claimed there is a severe shortage of vegetables in the country.
He stated at present, the Dambulla Economic Centre is receiving only 20-25 percent of stocks, the Manning Market only 25-30 percent, the Thambuttegama Economic Centre only 20 percent and the Keppetipola Economic Centre is receiving 40-50 percent of vegetable stocks from farmers.
Meanwhile, the Nuwara Eliya Economic Centre which was closed yesterday in support of the farmers protest in Nuwara Eliya, resumed operations today.
