The Supreme Court has issued an interim injunction suspending the Presidential Pardon issued to former Parliamentarian Duminda Silva.
The order was issued when a Fundamental Rights petition filed by the wife of former Parliamentarian Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, Sumana Premachandra, was taken up for consideration today.
Court also issued an order to the Criminal Investigation Department for his immediate arrest.
The Supreme Court also ordered the Attorney General to assist the CID with necessary legal advice to arrest Duminda Silva.
An overseas travel ban has also been imposed by Court, on the individual.
Silva was released on Presidential Pardon by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the 24th of June 2021, in view of Poson Poya, when he was on death row.
The petition was considered before Judges Achala Wengappuli, P. Padman Surasena and Yasantha Kodagoda.
The hearing was postponed to the 9th of September.
Duminda Silva was sentenced to death over the murder of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.
Silva was jailed in September 2016 when the Colombo High Court found him and several others guilty over the murder of Premachandra.
