Minister of Mass Media Dullas Alahapperuma has expressed his regret over the attempt to summon several journalists to the Criminal Investigation Department on the same day as International Day for Universal Access to Information.
Speaking during a social media discussion organised yesterday by the Journalists for Rights Organisation, Minister Alahapperuma said such incidents must not be allowed to continue adding he informed the Prime Minister and the subject Minister of the developments immediately.
He added he openly objects the incident. Joining the discussion Parliamentarian Shanakiyan Rasamanickam said journalists are not allowed to cover the District Development Committee meetings.
MP Rasamanickam said it has become a challenge for MPs to attend the meetings as well.
He said it is unfortunate that laws on paper are not being practiced.
The Parliamentarian said they have not been provided details of employment including the posts filled and the qualifications of the individuals for the Batticaloa District under the 100,000 jobs programme.
He said he personally had made written requests on a district level to which no response has been provided.
