Health units have urged parents to refrain from sending children to school or day care if they have symptoms such as fever, colds, headaches, and other flu-like symptoms.
Speaking to media Consultant Paediatrician at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital Colombo Dr. Deepal Perera said COVID-19 is on the rise once again.
Dr. Perera said children with such symptoms upon being tested return positive results for the coronavirus.
He noted that all children with such symptoms are not tested at present.
Dr. Perera therefore urged parents to refrain from sending children to school when sick, at a time that schools have just begun reopening.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said institutions and all organisations must maintain good health practices owing to the spread of the coronavirus.
He urged that companies maintain social distancing, refrain from engaging in physical greetings, and wear face masks when in public transportation and at public places such as shops and bus halts.
