Trade unions demand an immediate halt to the awarding of Ministerial portfolios to members of the Mahinda Rajapaksa-led government who instigated violence and unrest across the country by attacking protesters at Galle Face and opposite Temple Trees on the 9th of May.

Speaking during a media briefing yesterday, trade union leader Ravi Kumudesh said the office premises of newly appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is the location in which the violent attacks were planned and executed.

Kumudesh said Premier Wickremesinghe will be able to gather necessary evidence against the masterminds behind the attacks from within his office.

He said they received reports that those responsible for the attacks were present at the premises when the Prime Minister assumed duties.

Kumudesh claimed Prime Minister Wickremesinghe was named as Premier, not due to his capabilities but due to the public struggle.

He said therefore the new Prime Minister’s priority must be to protect those who are engaged in the struggle.
