The United National Party has condemned the mistreatment of teachers by the present administration.
Speaking to media, General Secretary of the UNP Palitha Range Bandara said the teachers are not demanding a salary increase but requesting the government to pay their arrears or to present a mechanism that will see them receiving their dues in future.
The UNP General Secretary said the previous good governance government presented a Cabinet paper in 2019 to resolve the issues of the teachers, however due to the change in administration, the implementation of the proposal was delayed.
Former Parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara said although the present administration came to power pledging to address all issues of the people, it has been unsuccessful in solving the problems of the public.
He said the government has been hurling allegations at teachers continuously instead of listening to their reasonable concerns.
The UNP General Secretary questioned as to whether the government has any intention of resolving the matter or is buying time until another issue emerges.
