Investigations have commenced over a complaint lodged with the Borella Police by a prison doctor who had allegedly received death threats from Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen.
The Inspector General of Police had informed the Colombo Crimes Division to conduct the relevant investigation.
The complaint lodged by a prison doctor attached to the Colombo Magazine Prison states MP Bathiudeen had forcefully arrived when he was inspecting another prison inmate on the 15th of August, and levelled death threats to the doctor when asked to remain outside.
The relevant doctor had then lodged complaints with the Chief Doctor of the Prison and higher authorities of the prison, following which the doctor lodged a complaint with the Borella Police.
Further investigations are being carried out by the CCD based on orders issued by the IGP, after a written complaint was directed to the IGP by the Prisons Commissioner.
Police said the doctor involved in the incident was summoned to the CCD last afternoon to record a statement.
Meanwhile, the Department of Prisons has also launched an investigation over the incident under the supervision of a Prisons Assistant Superintendent.
