The Ministry of Health has warned against transporting gas cylinders horizontally.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information today, Specialist at the Non-Communicable Diseases Unit Dr. Samitha Siritunga said the safety valve can be damaged if the gas cylinder is transported horizontally.
Dr. Siritunga noted the gas cylinder must be kept vertically while transporting.
Joining the media briefing Specialist at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka Dr. Senitha Liyanage said if an individual is on fire they should not run, and instead move away from the gas and roll on the floor.
Dr. Liyanage added running will worsen the burns.
He noted when administering first aid for burns, the burnt surfaces must be washed with flowing water.
He said burns cause high temperatures on the surface of the skin, and may spread to deeper skin if it is not washed with flowing water for around 20 minutes
