Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has advised officials to look in to whether rice mill owners, who purchase paddy from the government, are directing rice stocks to the market.
The Minister reiterated claims that there is no reason for a rice shortage to emerge in the country.
Speaking during an event in Sooriyawewa, Minister Amaraweera said stocks of rice are being released based on the market requirement.
500MT of rice was released to Sathosa outlets on Saturday (11), while another 2,400MT of rice will be released in the month of June.
