The Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Prof. Rohana Luxman Piyadasa says initial discussions on reactivating the United People’s Freedom Alliance once again are currently underway.
Piyadasa speaking to media in Kandy said the discussions held under the patronage of SLFP Chairman former President Maithripala Sirisena and the General Secretary of the Alliance Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and other affiliated parties via Zoom were fruitful.
Prof. Piyadasa said it was unanimously decided at the recent Central Committee meeting to reactivate the UPFA.
He said initial discussions were held with progressive left leaning parties in order to rally around the SLFP while the UPFA manifesto and future steps will be announced in future.
Rohana Luxman Piyadasa on a separate note said the country is currently faced with an economic and foreign exchange crisis, administrative and management issues while experts are resigning from posts due to frustration with certain government policies.
He said most recently Dr. JD Mannapperuma resigned from his post as the Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board, environmental activist Ishini Wickremesinghe resigned from her post as the Director General of the National Zoological Gardens, Prof. WD Lakshman resigned as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, while numerous experts in advisory posts of the Ministry of Health also stepped down.
Prof. Piyadasa said these instances must be evaluated irrespective of being a stakeholder of the present administration and provide due guidance in society.
