The Disaster Management Centre and the Department of Examinations have implemented a joint programme to face disaster situations that may arise during the conduct of the GCE Ordinary Level Examination owing to the south-west monsoon season.
Accordingly, the Exam Department informed that together with the DMC a disaster preparedness plan has been formulated to minimise possible disruptions due to disasters.
Meanwhile, in the event of any difficulties in sitting the exam owing to a disaster situation, students have been informed to contact the DMC emergency hotline 117 or the Coordinating Office established by the Examinations Department on 1911.
Commissioner General of Examinations LMD Dharmasena addressing a media briefing at the Government Information Department said parents must be aware of weather reports, floods warnings and landslide warnings issued by the respective authorities.
He reiterated that the Ordinary Level students have had their exams delayed by five month, and are supposed to be in the Advanced level class.
However, Dharmasena said maximum support will be given to students from the Department of Examinations.
