Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama states that if any member of the government wants to criticize the present administration, it should be done after leaving the government.
Minister Amunugama was speaking at a media briefing convened by several government-affiliated political parties today.
Minister Dilum Amunugama stressed that the President has taken a policy decision and not a personal decision to remove two Ministers from their posts.
He said while they should be commended for the work carried out to form the government and take forward its policies, they cannot be allowed to criticise the government in public forums while holding ministerial posts.
Minister Amunugama said they cannot sit back and remain silent when certain ministers criticize the President, the Minister of Finance and the government.
He said therefore a policy decision was taken to sack Ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila.
State Minister Kanchana Wijesekera also joined the media briefing.
The State Minister emphasized that the power crisis and the fuel crisis in the country would not have arisen if the Minister of Energy had managed his portfolio properly.
State Minister Kanchana Wijesekera was responding to a question raised by the media as to whether the removal of two Ministers from their portfolios was in the personal interest of anyone.
He said the Energy Minister should’ve managed his portfolio better which would’ve helped avert the current crisis.
