State Minister Dilum Amunugama says Sri Lanka being able to function despite the country’s tourism industry and foreign remittances coming to a standstill owing to the coronavirus pandemic, is a commendable feat.
Speaking at a function in Kandy the State Minister said under such circumstances obtaining loans from foreign countries is a natural occurrence.
The State Minister said Sri Lanka received USD 5 Billion through the tourism industry and USD 5-6 Billion through foreign remittances adding that despite all this being affected with the coronavirus with countries closing borders and expatriates returning to Sri Lanka after losing jobs, Sri Lanka functioned uninterrupted.
He said the government ensured that the booster vaccine dose was made available adding that as a result the number of deaths due to the coronavirus was controlled.
State Minister Amunugama said the opposition also understands the impact of the global pandemic even though they behave as if they don’t understand the situation.
He added many posting comments on social media are individuals who are contracted to do so by organised groups.
He called on the public to discern and identify the truth.
