Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Dhammika Perera has been sworn in as the Minister of Investment Promotion.
Perera took oath before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the President’s House this evening (24).
Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath was also present at the occasion.
Dhammika Perera was sworn in as a Member of Parliament from the National List of the SLPP on Tuesday.
Perera’s name was handed over to the National Election Commission as a replacement following the seat left vacant with the resignation of Basil Rajapaksa earlier this month.
His name was gazetted as an MP on the 10th of June by the Election Commission.
Five Fundamental Rights petitions were filed against the appointment of Dhammika Perera as an MP, which questioned the constitutionality of him accepting a post in Parliament.
When the petitions were being considered before the Supreme Court, Perera informed Court that he does not intend on taking oath as an MP until Court reaches a verdict over the petitions.
The Supreme Court earlier this week dismissed the five petitions without taking them up for consideration.
