The JVP says the address of the American firm that is a party to the agreement signed secretly pertaining to the transfer of 40% of the shares of the Kerawalapitiya Yugadanavi Power Plant is an address of a US supermarket.
Speaking during a gathering in Ganemulla, Politburo member of the JVP Former Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti said it must be verified whether this address is in fact the address of the relevant firm.
Handunnetti said the government claimed the agreement was signed according to US time when questioned why it was signed at 12.06 am adding however the US representatives were in Sri Lanka.
The former Parliamentarian said the government has not yet tabled a copy of the agreement in Parliament or to the Cabinet of Ministers irrespective of the numerous requests.
He said a copy of the agreement must be available irrespective of the time it was signed.
Handunnetti said the Cabinet was not aware of the agreement until it was signed.
The former JVP MP said the agreement contains a condition which states the details of the agreement cannot be published until two years have lapsed.
He said this was not added as a requirement of the US firm as they are merely a service provider adding those who aim to profit from the agreement are responsible for this.
Handunnetti said not only the address of the firm but the name of the US firm has been changed.
The former MP questioned the motives behind such a secretive agreement.
