The Ministry of Health says the number of dengue cases are rising significantly with the rainy season.
Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath speaking at a media briefing said the rise in dengue cases during this time is expected.
Dr. Herath said dengue is not like COVID-19 adding that it won’t spread from one individual to another, unless through mosquitoes.
He added however if there are mosquitoes, maintaining social distancing won’t prevent an individual from contracting dengue, and it may spread to within 200-300 metres.
He therefore urged all persons to keep their homes and the surroundings clean.
