Chief Executive Officer of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Ajith P Perera says the daily power cut duration could likely increase further owing to the diesel shortage in the country.
Speaking at a media briefing today, Perera said all citizens must take to the streets to bring about a genuine change.
Perera said due to the lack of diesel in the country the duration of power cuts will increase further in the days ahead while the short-sighted actions of the government will also lead to electricity tariffs increasing by two or threefold.
He charged that the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka is also putting on various spectacles and with time will grant approval for the price hike without considering public opinion.
Perera claimed fuel prices have increased, due to corrupt and unplanned purchases.
While acknowledging that fuel prices in the international market have also increased, Perera stated that electricity tariffs will increase significantly.
He said the public is battered as their modes of income have been affected while expenses have risen exponentially.
Perera said the public is paying for the actions of the government and the corrupt state officials.
