State Minister Jeevan Thondaman says the Ceylon Workers Congress condemns the assault on a group of protesters and journalists by the security forces in Mirihana on Thursday night.
Speaking to media today in Kotagala, the State Minister said assaulting citizens who are battered by the fuel, gas, power crisis, and rising cost of living is not a solution to the prevalent crisis.
State Minister Thondaman said the Ceylon Workers Congress will have to reach a decision on withdrawing support towards the government if the needs and requirements of the estate community are not met.
Thondaman added he did not attend the recent All Party Conference as the demands of the estate workers have not been met and not because he was not granted a Cabinet Ministerial post.
The State Minister claimed he is unaware as to the basis of the imposition of a State of Emergency, adding that when tabled in Parliament for a vote a suitable decision will be reached on whether to support the move or not following a thorough analysis.
