The Sri Lanka Customs has seized a stock of goods, that have import restrictions, from a group of passengers who arrived from Chennai, India at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
472kg of turmeric, 352kg of cardamom and a large quantity of pharmaceuticals were among the goods.
The items were concealed in the travellers luggage.
The group engages in short visits to India.
The Customs said the market value of the goods is close to Rs.4 million.
It was revealed that due to the import restrictions imposed on these goods, Sri Lankans traveling to India as tourists are attempting to smuggle in similar goods.
