The Narcotics Control Unit of the Sri Lanka Customs have seized 472g of kush, a type of cannabis, and 302 narcotic pills worth nearly Rs.9 million.

The stock of narcotics were found by officials attached to the Narcotics Control Unit when five parcels suspected to contain drugs were stopped for inspection during surveillance duties at the Central Mail Exchange.

Sri Lanka Customs said the parcels were addressed to residents of Colombo and Gampaha, and sent from Britain, Germany and Canada.

Further investigations confirmed the addresses are fake.

The stock of narcotics is due to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
