The Sri Lanka Freedom Party states that a situation has arisen where some individuals affiliated to the government including Ministers are avoiding filling stations.
Speaking to the media in Kandy, Senior Vice President of the SLFP Professor Rohana Luxman Piyadasa said that the current situation in the country is deplorable.
He said although it appeared that the energy crisis was coming to an end, during the last few days, long queues could be witnessed at filling stations once again.
Professor Rohana Luxman Piyadasa claimed that the country’s Energy Minister is unaware of the issues faced by the public.
He said the Minister had made a number of claims as to when the energy crisis will be over and yet, the public has been forced to line up in queues to purchase petrol, diesel and gas.
Commenting on the President’s recent address to the nation, Professor Rohana Luxman Piyadasa said they did not observe anything substantial coming out of the address.
He said the President had claimed that he is not responsible for the current crises in the country.
The Senior Vice President of the SLFP said they cannot accept that claim, since the public gave an overwhelming mandate to the President during the past two elections and additional powers were also granted through the 20th amendment to the constitution.
He said in the backdrop the President cannot claim that he is not in control of the situation.
Rohana Luxman Piyadasa also lamented on the forex crisis which according to him was created due to mismanagement.
He said throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses functioned and products were exported and therefore it is unacceptable that the country is now reeling with a crisis of this magnitude.
He said the present administration must take full responsibility for the current state of the country.
