Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued directives to impose curfew in the Western Province with immediate effect.
When contacted by NewsRadio, the Prime Minister’s Media Divisions said emergency law will also be imposed across the country.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratne and the security forces have been instructed to arrest those rioting and to seize vehicles that are transporting mobs including persons behaving in a violent manner into custody.
The directives come into effect with the large crowds that have gathered outside the Prime Minister’s Office down Flower Road.
